Over the past year I have hada couple of Cholesterol tests which showed my levels were high and naturally the GP recommended Statins. I had put this off until November last year as I thought it was now time to address the issue. I'm 57 in reasonably good health, but need to lose some weight.
Prior to starting, the blood tests also included the GammaGT, which was 38. This is well within the range for men over 50. Initially, I didn't feel any noticeable side effects and I had been reassured that a high percentage of the population in my age bracket were on them as they also reduced the risks of heart attack & strokes. In mid-January this year, my urine turned a very dark orange colour, my skin had become mottled and itchy. I measured the pH of my Urine at 4.0, there were no other abnormal indicators on the test strip.
I have had a follow up blood test and the GammaGT is 153. I rarely drink alcohol, so I do not believe it has been adversely influenced by a few beers I had 6 days prior to the test.
I will be looking to have this investigated further to ensure there are no other factors I need to be aware of. Does anyone have any indications on how long it could take for the live to recover back to normal levels? Any good tips on foods to promote a healthy liver (ie beetroot/cranberry juice).
This still leaves the issue of my Cholesterol, any good tips to help promote reducing the levels.
