Recent results. Always had high cholesterol so did my parents who lived well into their nineties ,no heart disease . My dad was very slim and active and loved plenty of fat, butter and cream . My brother also has high cholesterol. He's in his mid eighties ,very fit , still runs. They haven't had it this high and neither have I . Only had it checked about half dozen times in approximately thirty years and during that time I saw a dietician who told me not to worry about it has my triglycerides were low and she told me to eat nuts every day. Previous highest 8 it's also been 7 and 6.5 and always low tryglycerides and good HDL . I've always been slim and farly active , never overweight. Because there is no heart disease in the family and my parents lived long healthy lives I decided years ago not to take statins and so did they . Still , I am very surprised at this high number !

Hi,

First post, a good starting point.

Would it be possible for you to give all your blood lipid numbers.?

What are Australian reference numbers?

Thanks.

Thank you.

From the numbers you have given LDL is very high when checking with man made numbers.

Vitamin D may not affect cholesterol levels.

There are many people who have lived healthy life with double digit total cholesterol.

Please keep a record of every thing ,drinks and food you eat and go for a fasting cholesterol blood test as well as thyroid test

"Your body needs thyroid hormones to make cholesterol and to get rid of the cholesterol it doesn't need. When thyroid hormone levels are low (hypothyroidism), your body doesn't break down and remove LDL cholesterol as efficiently as usual. LDL cholesterol can then build up in your blood.".

Any stress?

I have controlled my cholesterol and blood glucose with life style change and regular exercise. I used to communicate with a doctor in NZ, who lived in a farm and drank fresh cow milk daily and lived with double digit cholesterol, a healthy life.

One Indian guru lately gave information on eating green leave veg towards a healthy life.

Please do not go for medication at the moment. You could ask for a referral to check family related high cholesterol.

Risk analysis is not going to give you nay good answers.

You could consider to go for a 12-lead heart stress check and electrocardiogram as well.

I went for the above and I was told by cardiologist not to go for medication to low cholesterol. At 76, I am enjoying life with life style change, with some body pain.

Please give an up date after three months.

Take care.

Many thanks for your reply and taking the time to respond and I also appreciate the extra info . That was a fasting test I had at the same time as a full blood count . All my levels for thyroid checked at same time , all normal. Interesting to read about the farmer sounds a bit like my relatives. I was brought up with cream on top of the milk and still only drink what is now called non homogenised . The farmer would be having raw milk I guess . It is available here now in the some supermarkets. I read some years ago about the homogenisation of milk being detrimental for our bodies . Also, skim milk doesn't have the naturally occuring vitamins A and D etc.

No, I won't take medication . Also, had ECG at the same time and had a stress test and echo a few years ago . I had atrial fibrillation when I had sepsis a year or so ago , all good now.

Two of my drs have retired so I seem to need to check re my health info myself now and ask for tests, results etc until I find another on similar wave length .

I only joined this site a few days ago so I'm not sure how to add extra info other than in the replies , so my extra info I added might be a bit scattered

🤔

The cholesterol test was part of full blood count . I will finish here as it's getting lengthy . Thanks again . Pleased to hear you're doing well . You take care too. 😊

The only things I've done differently this year is taking vitamin D for the first time . Started for winter mid May . I've stopped now. My levels are 99 and I've never been deficient . I've taken cod liver oil and fish oil which I will stop for summer. I've been less active through winter. I've also had prolonged stress and depression possibly exacerbated by winter also grieving some losses. Sleeping poorly , less active and less motivated. . No colds or flu . I have silent reflux overnight only . I had an emergency trip to hospital due to sepsis caused by a large infected kidney stone that I was unaware of up until a couple of months before. That was over a year ago. Other than that I seem to be ok . Thyroid levels are good and I don't take any medication . Oh I have large polyps gallbladder.

Also, I did take K2 with the D . Years ago when my Chol was high 6 to 7 range I went vegetarian low fat as was promoted at that time . Chol actually went up . I eat low sugar , lowish carbs , seldom have takeaways. I am no longer vegetarian and after seeing my parents eat plenty of fatty meats ,butter , cream etc and lived very healthily until their nineties I questioned everything about cholesterol and read many books , great cholesterol con , Chol myth . NASA space drs book re the detrimental affects of statins on memory and dementia , and adverse affects on men's libido. Looked in on Chol sceptics and consulted a professor there who wouldn't touch a statin for many reasons but the main one being that he couldn't afford to jeopardize his memory . I am still questioning everything and have the recent book by Aseem Malhotra on hold at the library .

I've tried to give as much info as I can to help with replies. I avoid processed food and sugars . I don't eat cereals and only bread occasionally usually sourdough , and eat a good variety of different foods and good healthy fats. I've just started eating sauerkraut and kimchi more regularly. I definitely need to exercise more. I'm experimenting and reading all the time . Do I need to cut out dairy ? I have a some milk non homogenised and kefir and yoghurt and some cheeses for K2 . I realise our bodies are all different.
