Hi folks .. I have been taking Amlodipine 10mg for years without any problems. Recently I was referred to a consultant cardiologist for possible Angina. I also have raised cholesterol (6.6) so he prescribed Atorvastatin 40mg.. In the leaflet it says not to take this statin with Amlodpine as it interacts.. Anyone experienced this ? I have not taken any and will refer to my GP...

Hello. I have taken both at the same time and didn’t have any problems. Best to speak to your GP though.

Do you always ask for copies of all your test results with ranges ? You are legally entitled to them. It's a good way of monitoring your progress and checking what has been missed !

Raised cholesterol, in the old days often resulted in your thyroid being treated ... Have you had yours correctly tested to rule out problems there ?

Also low iron - ferritin - B12 - folate & VitD can cause heart issues ...

Thanks for your reply some great tips there.. I'll ask for my results.. I did have a thyroid check recently but not sure which tests they carried out ... Thanks again 😀👍

The correct testing is rarely done in the NHS. TSH - FT4 - FT3 & Anti-bodies TPO & Tg are the 5 tests required but the NHS just do the first and sometimes the second. Having low T3 can be the cause of heart issues and other symptoms as I know from experience.

You can have Private Testing kits sent to your home - used by hundreds on the Forum Thyroid UK here on Health Unlocked.

Click onto About Testing in the above link ..

Happy to help with results 😊

Surgeries should now have on-line access to records - so worth checking that out too. You will need to take ID with you ... You can phone Reception and request printed results with ranges and say you will be along to collect them on Wednesday. 😊

I would add B12 - Folate - Ferritin & VitD to the testing package ..

Hello popeyeuk,

Like Marinamac, I've was initially prescribed Simvastatin - which really didn't agree with me and my GP then changed it to Atorvastatin which I have tolerated well.

I've been taking both (together but at different times - Amlodopine in the morning and Atorvastatin at night) since 2012 without any contraindications.

Everyone reacts to things differently so do double check with your GP if you're concerned but it may be worth giving it a try first.

All the very best.
