It’s pretty much the same as getting the original pacemaker except the doctor doesn’t have to place the leads. He’ll numb the area, make an in incision, explant the old pacemaker, connect the new pacemaker to the leads, implant it in the pocket, test the pacemaker, then close the pocket or use steri-strips and cover the area with a dry sterile dressing.

The PM is changed, not the batteries?

Is there an alarm to say the batteries are low?

Yes, there is an alarm. The doctor doesn’t wait for the alarm to sound. The only times I’ve seen the battery so low that the alarm sounds was in patients that never get the pacemaker checked. This is extremely rare; for instance, in homeless people. When the pacemaker rep or however checks your pacemaker uses their wand and machine thing, it shows where the battery usage is. That being said, there is no “battery”. You get another pacemaker. I hope this helps.
