At 73 I have been given a ch level of ... - Cholesterol Support
At 73 I have been given a ch level of 8 and it's too high. Will changing eating habits reduce that? Pref without medication.
I agree it is too high but, so far, your body seems to have coped with this. Unless you have a family history of death from heart disease, the first things to try are changing your eating habits, taking more exercise and losing some weight. (At 5' tall, 11 stone is far too heavy - imagine the extra strain that puts on your heart?) If you look at the HEART UK website, there are lots of tips on the right foods to help (e.g. oily fish, oats, red fruit drinks - low sugar - especially pomegranate juice, garlic, onions, margarines, yogurts and drinks with plant sterols - e.g. flora, benecol etcetera) and your local health service should be able to point you in the right direction for help with exercise in your area. All these changes should help to reduce your cholesterol levels so I wish you every success. Do get back to the forum and let us know how you have manages.
Hi Silvery. Yes you can reduce your Col without MED.
You could reduce weight and Col by cutting out all sugars, preservatives, have a low carb and natural fat intake, ie full fat produce, low fat products are full of hidden sugars.
It can be quite hard to cut sugars, it,s really addictive.
I had a TIA, 2years ago, am 65 very fit, could not understand why it happenend, found I had Arterial blockage in neck, not good, NHS were fantastic, spent 6 days in hospital, thankfully made a full recovery.
Blood thinner and STATINS were prescribed, Statins in bold, beware, can give horrible side effects, I stopped taking various over a 12 month period.
Sorry to go on but I found Heathunlocked site by chance, I stopped the statins and changed my eating and lifestyle, I lost over a stone in weight within 6 months, and COL reduced to 4.3.
Do your home work, explore the site, it changed my life and hopefully extend it.
Regards. Allyg
