At last the weather is breaking, the sky a mass of glowering clouds. I painted this clifftop scene using liquid graphite, Inktense, Graphitint, oil pastels, gouache, acrylic ink and oodles of fun -- a lot of stuff for the 5" by 7" painting. I love the effect when I drop the liquid graphite into a wash of water, as for the blue-grey sky; or when I put some Inktense into a wash of water, and then dribble more water into it, as on the more distant cliffs. Both give a delightful, granular and moody look. No matter, I hope you enjoy seeing yesterday's painting.

I love the colours you have chosen and the atmosphere it creates. I am sorry you are having to isolate again. It is sad that freedom for some means isolation for others. I hope you manage to get some help if needed.

What some lovely cool colours in today's painting! It was a relief here on the south coast too, when last night temperatures dropped a little, and this morning there's a fresh breeze blowing. The liquid graphite does really sound like fun and I'm glad you're enjoying using it to much.... and to such good effect. A lovely picture! 👍😊

Definitely conveys the mood BrentW. The painting is great but sorry to hear about the impact of restriction lifting on you. It’s not good for so many. We just go out locally, masks in place, social distancing and not at busy times. I hope you can find a solution for you. Take care x

Experimenting and enjoying the process is what’s important and what produces the best work As a child I was obsessed with drawing and painting it was all I ever wanted to do 24/7 and brought me immense pleasure. At 16 I went to Art college but then life took over - marriage, children etc . Now I find I have all the equipment but the inspiration has gone 😢 and I know that it’s because whenever I pick up a brush I feel deep down that I ought to produce something that other people think is good . I remember well the great excitement I used to feel with just a pencil in hand and a sheet of blank paper in front of me and I wish I could feel that way again . Perhaps experimenting may work for me - I’ll give it a go 😀

Please do try it, TPW. I started maybe 18 months ago, and for long enough was obsessed with what other people might think. Perspective especially bugged me (though I drew this in a Goldster art class just yesterday). Then I started exploring other materials, and leaving so much more to chance. Now I enjoy it -- though finding inspiration can be a real challenge.

I think I’m living proof that too much education isn’t always a good thing , I’m great with perspective 😂 I think it was Matisse who said “it took me years to learn how to paint like a child “ Wise words - I have a feeling I may well be playing with sand, salt , ink and paint soon 😃
