Rosa Mundi. also called the York and Lancaster Rose. It was supposed to symbolise peace at the end of the Wars of the Roses as The York emblem was a white rose and Lancaster a red one. A wonderful perfume and hope for the future

Just beautiful l can almost smell its perfume.
Hi FredaE, Thanks so much for that absolutely lovely picture of the Rosa Mundi and so lovely to hear of its origin as an emblem of peace. Just gorgeous. Is this a picture of your own roses?
No the rose is one of a magnificent display at Haddon Hall on the Staffs/Derby border where I was on holiday with a dear friend last week . It is a wonderful medieaval house/castle with steeply terraced gardens and the retaining walls covered with roses. We all hated last winter but it does seem that everyone's roses loved it. If you are collecting proverbs and sayings that was clearly an ill wind which blew nobody any good! They are all scented. We spent all day there and didn't want to leave but were in need of a sit down after going up and down all those steps
