Cancer is a complex disease process. As an oncologist I can say there is no evidence to support alternatives to chemo are any effective although you will hear some around the internet. If the cancer is local only then certainly radiation therapy can be considered but if the cancer has spread to other organs, then unfortunately cure cannot be obtained and chemotherapy is palliative (means to decrease symptoms). Recently a receptor called HER2 is shown positive in some esophageal cancers and if so, can give targeted therapy to block these receptors which gives good response rate to shrink the tumor.

Hope this helps
