So I know i've been obsessing about psa testing lately , My brother at my encouragement had his psa checked ,it was 6 ,then he had biopsy of his prostate it came back positive gleason score 6 stage1 and thankfully his doctor can keep their eye on this cancer .I found out about all this yesterday. You should not have to ask for a PSA test it should be offered Routinely as we age starting at 45 or 50 this could save so many lives.

good job on getting your brother to get checked. Just told my 47 year old nephew to get his checked and his doctor said I wasn’t a close enough relative to star checking before 50. Doctors aren’t always smart.
Get checked anyway. If there is a family history of #ProstateCancer especially aggressive cancer recommended age is 35!
PSA is a sort of Check Engine light not driving us to a new transmission but possibly leading to MRI and Biopsy if needed. I've Bern an Active Surveillance Pioneer since Gleason 6 diagnosis Nov06
It is , we sometimes have to beg our doctors for this simple test ,Iwas told that the psa test might make me worry, after my alkaline phos. phatase was spiking. a psa test was done (1316. further research I found that this was the first psa test I ever had.) followed by a bone scan highly suggestive of a super scan .Yes now I am worried !!! PS Iam under treatment and doing well.
