I have been living with tinnitus for a long period now. Maybe the last seven year has been the worst. I can sometimes sound it out but at the moment it’s hurrendous. I try to think of it as my head is having a party without my permission. Stops me getting too anxious. I notice stress makes it twice as bad. I can’t remember the last time I had peace in my head. Mine is here 24 hour. Sometimes birds singing. Sometimes metal dropping. Sometimes a tractor in the back ground. I have sounding out heating aids which do help a bit Any other advice would be appreciated.

Hi Ybbob1 - this is similar to my experience. It all started on the left side about 15 yrs ago but seems to have reached a plateau in its development. Now fairly active on right side as well. More noticeable at night or in the evening when life has quietened down a bit, but so far (fingers crossed) it doesn't seem to interfere with my sleep. Agravating factors are stress/challenging situations, such as driving (which I used to enjoy, but not so much now). Symptom is mostly a hissing sound, which occasionally 'changes gear' to a whistle or whine, but then reverts back to the regular hissing. No strategy for addressing this at the moment, but I have an ENT appt on 24th Jan, so it'll be interesting to see what comes out of that - if anything useful!
