Pulsing sensation only when head on pillow!

Around 12 months ago I had a ear infection from wind that got into my ear that caused my Eustachian tubes to fill up with water and I noticed I could feel this pulse sensation at the side of my ear where most people have a pulse. I can only feel this when I am laying down with my head one the pillow. I was referred to the ENT In the may of 2018 where they did some tests and they said I was tinnitus free and pulsatile tinnitus free. All they could find was Wax in my ear which I seem to produce quite a lot and have to get them done frequently. After going to the ENT and over summer I could not feel this pulse it’s like it just disappeared. Around November time I went to get my ears stringed from a private ear company that specialises in removing wax, when I went to bed that night noticed the pulse had come back & I had another ear infection. A couple of weeks later I had a really bad virus and was taken to hospital due to an ear infection giving me otitis media and a mild cause of sepsis in both ears which has seemed to make the pulse worse. I also suffer from anxiety which I know wont be helping me, I’ve been back and forth to the doctors and he said my ears are clear and I’m not eat infection free but I’m still left with this pulse and it’s really confusing me and I can’t not but think about it all the time. I was just hoping you could maybe help me out :(

Thanks Liam

Hello and welcome to the British Tinnitus Association forum. Do feel free to ask any questions, I hope that you find this a helpful and supportive place to help you manage your tinnitus.

It's quite common to hear a pulse when you are lying with your head on a pillow. The pressure can constrict - very slightly, and not to put you in any danger - one of the small blood vessels around your neck or ears, and that can be enough for your ears to pick up a pulse.

We have some resources that you might like to check out in addition to our home here:
