I developed pulsating tinnitus in December mainly in my left ear. Since then I have learned to live with it but having tests. The first one was a hearing test - slight hearing loss. Next an MRI on Sunday. On Tuesday I got a message to say that a CT scan had been arranged for this Thursday. I phoned to ask why as I thought it was a mistake but the admin person just said they needed more information. I am worried of course that they have found something serious, especially as it has been organised so quickly. Has anyone had similar experience?

Hi Redwen,
This is a link about Pulsatile Tinnitus on the BTA website ..
tinnitus.org.uk/pulsatile-t...
If you scroll down to "How is pulsatile tinnitus investigated?" and then to the MRI heading you will see that it is not uncommon for those with Pulsatile Tinnitus to require both a MRI and a CT scan. So the fact that they have called you back for a CT scan doesn't point to them finding anything serious. More likely they are just being thorough. Good luck though and let us know how it goes.

Yes, I was prescribed a hearing test, MRI an CT scan all within the same appointment. The doctor just wanted to be able to eliminate certain unlikely possibilities. Everything came back clear, (thankfully) though I do understand how unsettling it can be to have all these tests done all at once. Try not to worry.

I had the same, don’t worry, apparently the CT scan looks at the bones in your ears, the MRI scan is for the fleshy parts. They found nothing in me, was sort of hoping they would! Give me some sort of answer.
Hi. I also have PT in my left ear only..2.5 years..Could you tell me a bit more about yours..Thanks
