Really bad Tinnitus

About 6 weeks ago all of a sudden I got a loud ringing in my head.

I got very worried about it and went up my GP who arranged for a hearing test which showed as expected as I’ve had high pitch heating loss for many years.

I have been extremely stressed and began to have balance and a loss of sensations on my right side. The GP referred me to my local hospital with a suspected mini stroke, fortunately an MRI showed up negative. I’m now awaiting an ENT appt but not sure what they can do for me, I’m at a great loss and becoming very depressed.

Has anyone any idea of what to do as I really can’t live out the rest of my life with this awful ringing.

Thank you

Hello and welcome to the British Tinnitus Association forum.

Do feel free to ask any questions, I hope that you find this a helpful and supportive place to help you manage your tinnitus.

Stress can be trigger for tinnitus, and it sounds like you've been having a tough time lately. Hopefully your ENT appointment will be soon, and you will find out more about your options.

We have some resources that you might like to check out in addition to our home here:

tinnitus.org.uk

- the leaflet on tinnitus and stress may be helpful, and also the one on tinnitus services, which explains what might happen when you're referred.

Warmest wishes

The BTA information leaflets are a good place to start learning about the condition. I'd also recommend tracking down 'michaellee' on this forum and having a nosy around the stuff he's posted - he puts some extremely worthwhile advice and information in his posts.

Try not to let panic overwhelm you. It's a natural reaction to the onset of tinnitus, but you can't live the rest of your life today - you can only deal with today. Taking it one day at a time is the way forward.

Thanks for the info, I'll track down michaelee and see if there is anything there for me.

I'm off to London to a specialist clinic, not that they will have a magic wand to get rid of this dam ringing but maybe find out why and offer some assistance.

Thanks again
