does anyone know of a cough mixture that will help my early morning session of coughing? It exhausts me. It is exhausting coughing and it’s a clear sticky phlegm that takes ages to get rid of. Is there an over the counter cough mixture that works? Love Iris x

Hi iris, sorry to hear of your coughing every morning to move clear sticky phlegm. I wonder if it would be better to make it less sticky so that it moved more easily, and hope you can get your Gp to prescribe suitable medication. I cough lot and have medication to make my sputum/phlegm more thin and movable. It’s carbocisteine and I take 8 tablets a day! Good luck, best regards, Jean x

I agree with Morrison,Iris.cough is needed to get thr mucous up but should b easier if mucous is thinner.im on carbocysteine,on prescription but some people buy nacys. Also using salbutamol to dilate airways, before expectorating, makes it bit easier xx

My doctor suggested nebulizing saline solution prior to lung clearance to help thin the mucus. It has helped me. He started me at 7%, but it was too strong. 3% or usually 1% solution is what I use, and I get it on Amazon. (I’m in the U.S. and don’t need a prescription.)
