Question about managing your bronchiectasis chest clearance when in hospital if unwell

hi folks

A general question after a days stay in hospital and not able to do my chest clearance until late evening ... & When I was so tired

I'm just wondering how us BE sufferers manage their clearance when in hospital for a longer period of time ?.....especially when unwell and totally whacked out ?......as I was last week.

Are hospitals proactive in ensuring this gets done on a daily basis?

Thanks

Physios at RBH are a crucial part of the team & very, very keen on pts continuing airway clearance. They usually visit daily to encourage, check technique etc. No matter how ill or worn out you feel they’ll be there to insist you keep it up! but also are full of suggestions to make it easier & more productive.

Have you ever tried The Bird? It’s a non invasive respirator which forces air into the airways under carefully calibrated pressure, enabling you to shift secretions with much less effort. I think most hospitals have one or two of these ancient but very effective machines, which can be used at the bedside. This is it

thanks so much for that Hanne... That's reassuring to hear

Haven't had a stay in hospital as yet. Just occurred to me when I was there last week. Just hope the QE in Birmingham has 'The Bird' device or similar ... It looks effective! 🤞

& Improving now thanks... Wasn't BE related thank goodness x

I used to work at the QE a few years ago looking after Bronchiectasis patients. Never dreamt I would end up with it. Its better now the condition is not just lumped in with General Respiratory Medicine but there are B'ect Consultants and Specialist Nurses 🙂

its left down to us to take responsibility for our lung clearance.ive usually pulled curtains partway or closed the door.yes it's hard whn exhausted with exacerbations, but even more important to empty the mucous then

Don't fancy having to do it behind curtains... I'm a bit of a noisy chest clearer!.. Pity for the other patients in the same room 🥴
