Dear Unicorn60

If you [are in the UK and] would find it useful to talk things over, our nurse-led helpline is open Monday 9am to 3pm and Tuesday to Friday 9am to 4pm on 0800 652 7330 excluding bank holidays.

We also facilitate a range of virtual support groups for people in the UK living with a liver condition(and their families and carers) including a monthly carers group. If you would find it helpful to speak to others with shared experience, you can register to join a group here:

Here is the link to our information about alcohol-related liver disease (ARLD) on our website, which you may find useful and on that page, it mentions Al-anon and AdFam who offer support for families and friends:

Sorry to hear about your partner but all you can do at this point is take care of yourself because worry and stress is bad for your overall health.

Hi Sophia....Thank you for your message...I think my one saving grace is that I don't live with him, I couldn't cope with the chaos!...he's a truly wonderful man, who sadly can drink half to a full bottle of Vodka, sometimes topped up with so called tonic wine and remain a thoroughly nice person....he's sensitive, caring and kind though sadly engulfed by the demon drink....wishing you a wonderful weekend...kind regards...✨️

Dear Unicorn60, So sorry to read your post.

My husband was drinking about a bottle of vodka each week - but binging. He intially went into hospital.in July 2024 and was diagnosed with decompensated liver chriosis. He stopped drinking immediately and now attends a weekly SMART support class which is like AA. He has not drunk a drop since but unfortunately he had a sudden oesophagal varicies bleed in November and nearly died - they found that a blood clot had formed in his portal vein which raised his blood pressure and caused the bleed in his food pipe. This is common for stage 4 chriosis - and causes internal.bleeding leading to being fatal.

Due to the bleeding varicies - He was in the ICU for 10 days and had 4 bands completed to save his life. He was in hospital for 4 weeks- came home the week before Xmas 2024 . Very weak but we are so grateful to the paramedics and doctors in ICU & hospital that they managed to save his life. He now has numerous appts for scans etc and seeing consultants- also on numerous additionalmeds.

The hospital has referred him for a liver transplant assessment. We are waiting to hear about thia appt.

He is not drinking but I do worry about him- but shouldn't because he really wants to live and get well .

In the meantime, I have decided to join the carers remote meeting on this site. The next meeting is on March 5th - see the link below. God bless! Pam
