my blood pressure used to drop quite low when I had drains. I used to be given IV albumin which I’m sure I was told helped. I couldn’t tolerate the diuretics.

He is given iv albumin as well he can't tolerate diuretics either they affect his kidney function. So its waiting.now to see what they can do as he gathers quite a lot of fluid .

I'm sorry to hear this. My hubby also cannot tolerate diaretics, these affected his kidneys. He now has a drain every 2 weeks. His downside of this was the drain site started to leak on a Saturday night. So off to a&e who incorrectly fitted a stoma bag. Dr advised to leave it on until next appointment in 12 days. Luckily or unluckily the bag leaked and I had a spare which I fitted and then on Monday contacted the specialist nurses who told me that the wound needed to be dry. We then visited hospital and the wound was glued and steristripped. 2 days post next drain. And fingers crossed this doesn't happen again. I am Interested to know also what happens if draining cannot be done.

Wishing you and hubby all the best.

I am sorry to hear about your hubby. That is a lot of fluid to drain off. We were told at hubby's drains that they cannot drain more than 10 litres at a time. I am worried about my husband too as his last blood test showed borderline impact on his kidneys from the diuretics and he is currently needing a drain every couple of months even taking them. He has also been told that a transplant is not an option for him due to his age and circulatory problems. Has your husband cut out salt as mine won't and uses a lot. We were told he would need a TIPS if they can't drain any more. But I understand that can bring on HE. It is all so worrying isn't it?

Best wishes to everyone caring for loved ones on here or suffering from liver disease.
