My name is Maddy. I am 18 years old and have autoimmune hepatitis. I have stage 3 liver fibrosis and an enlarged spleen. I have recently had the Mirena coil fitted because since taking medication for my liver, I have had incredibly heavy and frequent periods. However, the booklet i was given by my doctor after said that if i have or have had liver disease not to go on the coil. It also says that the coil may be reduced by medication used to increase liver enzymes which i am taking both steroids and immunosuppressants designed to increase my liver enzymes. My liver specialist hasn’t shed much light on the topic and has just said that she’s not a contraception doctor and that it should be fine. so as you can imagine, reading all the information that goes against what she’s said is quite unsettling. What i’m trying to say is does anyone with AIH have any experience with the Mirena coil that can reassure me that everything is okay.
Thank you,
Maddy
