hey all!

My mum is pretty much chair bound at the moment, and with recurrent episodes of HE, it’s difficult to keep watching the same programs over and over. I think it’s a mix of attention span alongside background depression, pain and he, but nothing seems to excite her, and so she doesn’t seem to be bothered by anything except constant police car chase shows, fraud tv programs etc where it’s all high stakes and constant attention grabbing music.

this is fine except my poor dad is sick to the teeth of these shows (as they are on 10 hours a day, whilst she naps on and off) and he then goes on his Xbox, which leaves mum feeling like he doesn’t want to spend time with her.

have you got any recommendations of high octane, exciting, but still easy to understand Netflix, amazon etc shows? Happy to pay for other streaming if needed; I just need something to grab her attention and keep it!

thanks

sam

Hi Sam. Sorry to hear how difficult things are. Just a thought - how about The Blacklist - crime drama series on Amazon Prime? The Blacklist follows the story of Raymond Reddington, a master criminal who turns himself in to the FBI and offers to help them capture some of the world's wanted criminals. There are lots of series. Have a look and see what you think. Best wishes

How about an ipad/tablet type gadget and earphones so they can watch different things.

Hi there I’m sorry for what is happening with your mum. May I suggest ITVX, The flood is very good. Also channel 5 Finders Keepers is keeping my attention. It seems the regular channel programs are enough to keep me away from Prime and Disney+ at the mo so I don’t know what is on there currently. All the best

Hi - extremely sorry to read about your mum. Suffered from HE myself and it’s horrible. From personal experience I was angry and aggressive so not quite sure high octane might be such a good idea but so be it if it helps her. Suggestions purely personal and not sure which are currently available streaming but here you are ….

Mr & Mrs Smith, Bourne trilogy, Kingsman, Kill Bill 1 & 2, Bond (of course), Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Saving Private Ryan, Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, Layer Cake, Scarface, The Untouchables.

HE can be overcome so don’t despair. Caused by blood toxins, especially ammonia as far as I understand. Common treatment Lactulose and Rifaximin, cut salt and alcohol.

Hope this helps and happy viewing, C

Hi there. I have a similar issue with my hubbie wanting to watch the same programmes over and over. We rotate between Jason Statham movies (action and pretty easy to watch even on repeat); the Mission Impossible films (also good viewing). Found a great comedy that we are watching over and over and still find it funny - Count Arthur Strong on Prime. Start off with GB News to start the day before putting the repeats on. If you like detective shows The Unforgotten is excellent. Watching Happy Valley at the moment - Cop show with family story woven in. Good luck.
