The British Liver Trust are working with UK CLIF, a dynamic new network of clinicians, patients, carers/relatives and researchers coming together over our shared interest to improve research and clinical outcomes for people with chronic liver failure.

Cases of liver disease are rising alarmingly and with much inequity in the provision of care, as inpatient mortality rates from cirrhosis are several times higher in some areas of England compared to others. There is a lot of research activity, but few successful new treatments have come into routine care. It is imperative that we review approaches to care delivery, research translation into practice and focus on the research questions that can deliver better outcomes for patients.

There are two afternoon workshops in November, one in Bristol and one in Liverpool, to bring people together to take a ‘deep dive’ into the context, barriers and important questions for UK research into liver failure. We are very keen for patients, carers and relatives from each region to get involved. UK CLIF will pay travel expenses and PPI engagement fees.*

*In line with national guidance from NHS England.
