So many of you have watched my journey of the misdiagnosis of my wonderful wife. In the end, we now know a combination of Antibiotics destroyed her kidneys. Due to thinking she had cirrhosis, they had dosage values wrong...etc..etc.
She had high billis, which was due to a medication reaction, and slightly high GGT, and I mean a few points over normal.
Yesterday, the hospital finally acknowledged the mistake eight months after her passing. There are still three more hearings to go: actions with doctors who did not take the time to dig and review. And, then, missed the obvious.
I honestly can not blame the doctors or even the nurse who made a mistake. We live in a world that struggled through COVID. With Nurses and Doctors working heroic hours in underfunded systems. They are right 98% of the time. But you can't work humans to such a breaking point and expect perfection.
The hearings are not about discipline but a review of how did we missed this and what we can do next time.
I keep coming here to learn from all of you, to see if I missed something. Was there something obvious?
But also for you to make sure to ask and make sure to have an advocate.
Yesterday, getting the letter from the hospital (admins) I have removed any identifying information. It was, on one side a vindication, and on the other, my heart was ripped out. Knowing my wonderful wife but for mistakes, should be sitting here this morning with me. Watching the snow outside our window.
