Hello. I was diagnosed with alcoholic hepatitis with fatty liver in April 2022. My ultrasound at that time showed a fatty liver which was enlarged to 18 cm, smooth borders and no lesions. In August 2022, the inflammation had gone down and my liver measured 15.2 cm (still considered slightly enlarged) and fatty liver was still on that report, along with smooth texture and no lesions. Yesterday, I had an ultrasound on my liver and my gallbladder (I also have gallstones and a benign gallbladder polyp).
That report said my liver had smooth borders, no focal lesions, a normal size (15cm), and "Normal echotexture." My question is: Does that mean there is no fatty liver anymore? Would it be in the report if it was still present? This is the first time the ultrasound report has not said "fatty infiltration" or "fatty liver." I don't know what "normal echotexture" means. If anyone knows, please let me know. Seeing that along with LFT results all in the normal range for the second time, I am really hopeful that I have managed to reverse some of the damage, but I don't want to get too excited til I'm sure it's as good as it sounds.
I will be seeing the doctor as soon as I can, but the office has not received the report yet so I'm reading it on my own through the patient portal and waiting until the doctor reviews it so I can schedule an appointment. Thank you for any info anyone can give me!

I’m not a clinician…so this is something you need to talk in more detail with your doctor about. What you describe is all good though. It sounds as if your damage has been reversed. The echo texture would be the thing that showed up fatty liver. It would be coarse if there was fatty infiltration, but it’s saying normal, which is great. I’m assuming you must have stopped/reduced your alcohol intake to get an improved result. Fatty liver is wholly reversible if you change your lifestyle, and it looks like you’ve achieved that. Its important you talk through with your doctor though who will have the whole picture to get the precise position.
