Hi there Geordie, Liver function tests.....
Is the one raised gamma-glutamyl transferase, eg ggt,...sounds like it.
Its an extremely sensitive enzyme in the blood.....
Mine was very high heading for 1000🙄. So yes I've been there.
Thats when I was drinking to much....
Even after taking no alcohol for over 4 years, mine still remains stubbornly high, at my last bloods done 395!. But its not only alcohol that can upset ggt levels.
Several other enzymes make up a lft....alt,ast,alp, also bilirubin and I think albumin
Good you've knocked the alcohol on the head, thats the most important really.
Hopefully levels should drop.
Good you're to have an ultrasound, that will give a clearer picture Hopefully.
But ,in answer to your question, yes I've been where you are !!!
My best.
Chris
Just stop drinking for good, not cut back but STOP, if you need help to stop then seek that help, GGT is sensitive to alcohol, and tend to go down after you stop drinking, Always look at your platelets because most (85%) have low platelets, or low normal. Good-Luck
Thanks for replying. I cut back drastically 6 months ago and stopped completely 6 weeks ago. Since stopping my GGT levels have nearly trebled. Looking at forums I have never seen such a high level mentioned. Its the pace of worsening that really bothers me.My platelet count is very slightly below the normal range
