i am 42 and was recently diagnosed with Ascites from postal hypertension related NASH cirrhosis. Have had a number of paracentesis procedures now every two weeks. Weight has gone down from 335 to 235 and I had been following my diet and sodium restriction to the letter. I feel great.
my fluid draws have been decreasing in volume every two weeks. This last draw They got 4 Liters which was only slightly lower than the previous draw. This along with some things going on in life currently got me down and I messed up and had a binge where I consumed way over my calories and sodium level for the day. It’s only been 2 months since I started trying to fix myself and I know this has to be a life time commitment, but I feel like I have really messed it up.
Anyone have Ascites and fell of the wagon for a day and gone on to get it under control? I’m only on the lowest dose of Spiro and Furosemide currently and we haven’t figured out what the magic dose for me will be yet. Not sure what I am looking for, just another person that has been through this I suppose to get my head back right.
All in all I feel great and am lucky I have the quality of life and chance to do something to improve.
God Bless you all.
Chris

I am not a doctor, but I would not worry about one incident. Just go back to doing the good things you were doing. Again, I am not a doctor and this is message board advice not medical advice.
Thanks…I jumped back on track today. I am a reformed/reforming binge eater and am very hard on myself if I mess up. It’s very unsettling for me to know that there may be fluid building up in my body and me ruining my chances to turn things back around because I can’t control myself. This is just so frustrating at times and is a lot to deal with…a lot of times I just want to be normal again.
Please stop beating your self up, blips happen. Concentrate on no salt and high protein ( your body needs extra protein to pull the fluid back into your blood space. You should be very proud that the amount of ascites is reducing so well. My first drain was 15l and less than 2 weeks later it was 17.5 l, I hated the drains so I decided to try never to have another ( I never needed another one lol) I was very strict ( I cooked all my own food, refused anything processed, ate 6 small amounts with meat in everything) to begin with I made a big meal and then ate it slowly throughout the day ( yes including breakfast lol) Don’t give up Good luck
my partner and I managed a few days away and eating out he definitely had more salt than he would normally. We are back at home and on the usual diet and his fluid is under control (his weight fluctuated a little whilst we were away). These things happen, it sounds like you are doing great generally
Please don't be too hard on yourself. We all have "dips" in our lives but, as you have, learn from the mistakes we make. You have achieved som much with your weight loss and, as you say, are now back on tract. Well done to you and keep up your excellent work and good life. Take good care.
