Hi , my husband was told he had decompensated cirrhosis but now could have recompensated. He has no bleeding , varices or acites his ecg is fine and endoscopy showed no signs of liver cancer . He has had odema in both legs 3 times since December which also turned to cellulitis each time . Thankfully he’s had quite a few weeks free. He is wanting a holiday and wondered if it’s safe to fly, we wouldn’t be doing long haul , just maybe 2-3 hours, thank you

I’d speak to his GP or consultant before you book anything. You’ll also need to get travel insurance organised which highlights his condition. It’s likely you’ll need to go to a specialist firm like Avanti to get cover. Be very clear about his illness to make sure you have the right policy. Given he’s been unwell recently, maybe a holiday in the uk may be an idea just for this year. You’ll be close to NHS services who’ll have access to his medical history if he becomes unwell. It’s better than any travel insurance in my book. There’s some beautiful bits of the UK. I’ve just moved back to Wales after years in inland England. I’d forgotten how beautiful it is down here. Just a thought.
