I was hoping that there is a member of this great forum who has had a similar experience to me. I was told in December 2021 that I most likely had decompensated cirrhosis. Since then I have stopped drinking and my bloods have returned to normal.
However, I recently had a fibroscan showing a result of 69. I have no further info on this except what I can find on-line. It seems that this is almost the highest possible score. Of course I am very worried as I thought I was doing okay.
Can anyone please shed light on this?
Thank you

If your numbers are normal then I think you will now be in the "compensated cirrhosis" club. That is very good news ! But, as the test shows your Liver is still heavily scarred. At some point they will want to check for Varices which result from the scarring and usually a 6 month ultrasound to check for Liver Cancer.
Keep doing what your doing, sometimes it can take a while for your liver to start its recovery, it has in some instances taken years to progress so may take a long time to regress. But your bloods show that your liver is still doing what it should, and as we know the body can truck on for years with a slither of a liver. So as long as you don't have severe symptoms keep going and get a recheck in say 3-6 months. Let the body heal
Hi Teddy - how did you get diagnosed with decompensated cirrhosis in the first place? I was diagnosed in Dec 2020 after a Fibroscan. My bloods are all good, and I have no sign of varices. I am waiting for next appointment for my annual ultrasound.
It is still early days since your diagnosis, keep up the healthy living and hopefully things will improve.
I was diagnosed while undergoing tests for bowel cancer. I did find it strange that my GP didn't consider, given my history with alcohol and my symptoms, that I could have a liver problem.
That's in the past and I now realise that I have to be proactive and gather as much information as I can about my illness.
As I said, my bloods became normal very quickly after stopping drinking and, through research, I have been following all the dietary guidance as far as possible. I am so tired and only since the fibroscan have I become very anxious.
Even after research I have no better idea what my result of 69 means. It appears that this represents 86 percent of my liver?
I have tried so hard not to become over anxious but I like many others, am having great difficulty not knowing where I am with this disease.
I was very lucky to be picked up by my GP early in 2020 who noticed that my liver enzymes were high when I was having blood tests for general gastric symptoms. I was also tested for bowel cancer that year and so on, but referred to a hepatologist when this came back clear, but my bloods were still showing raised liver enzymes. I was diagnosed with cirrhosis after he referred me for a fibroscan.
I am hoping that, 16 months on, things have improved markedly after regular 6-monthly blood tests and a gastroscopy appear to show that things are all looking good. I have now booked a private fibroscan, because my consultant said it was not necessary to re-do it. So, like you, that sent my anxiety sky high again. We definitely have to learn to be proactive and our own advocate with this disease.
