No idea Dave, I've never worn one. 😂 You probably don't remember 'Trevor and Simon' swinging their pants? That's what I meant.

Probably a boring historical fact for you but technically what was worn under the kilt was a long shirt which was tied below the 'dangly bits'.

Historically in battle the kilt or great plaid/ féileadh-mór was actually unbelted and thrown off leaving the highlander to fight in his shirt tails - the kilt would otherwise get in the way of your sword and sheild. It's actually a falsehood when people claim to be a 'true Scotsman' because they are pantless.

As I tell the kiddie winkies in my schools historical workshops it's awfy chilly at times in the Highlands plus there is the dreaded Highland midgie so you would really want to have your bit under your kilt uncovered?

I always wanted to get to the bottom of it pun intended. I always have Mel Gibson

(I KNOW I'M SORRY - THAT IS A MASSIVE INSULT) but just the visual of them at the top of the hill in Braveheart, so now I know and have a much better visual image of long vests and a proper fact!

Braveheart aargh!! Shouldn't have been any tartan or kilts in that film at all - only about 400 (at least) years too early. (I went and saw it being filmed in Glen Nevis ......... was a MG fan at the time! and got seriously into re-enacting afterwards).

Anyway, slightly off topic.
