Hello all. I am absolutely terrified at the moment. I had a routine LFT carried out for insurance purposes & it came back as abnormal. I contacted my GP who carried out their own LFT. My total bilirubin was found to be 42 umol/L & my ALT 72 iu/L. My GP ordered more tests & I have just had the results back which give me an ELF score of 10.2 & it says ELF Score ELF >= 9.5: possible significant hepatic fibrosis. However, according to the NICE website <10.51, then advanced liver fibrosis is unlikely. I understand that NAFLD can be reversed however up until 3 years ago I was a heavy drinker for around 15 years drinking every evening & all weekend. Definitely more than the recommended daily intake. I was also very overweight for around 10 years. I have since lost over 5 stone & stopped drinking completely over the course of 3 years so this has all come as a shock to me.
According to some research I have found it says the ratio of AST:ALT is a good indication of whether the liver diseases is alcohol-related or not. The ratio is 0.7 which suggests NAFLD.
I think what I am asking is there any difference in the prognosis between NAFLD & ARLD? How would I know which one I have & could my diet still bring the ELF score down?
I am due for a fibroscan which I think is more accurate.
Thank you in advance.
