I had a Fibroscan 6 months ago, CAP was 284 & kpa 3.5. I worked hard on diet, exercise, no alcohol etc to improve fatty liver & had a repeat scan today - CAP was 186, but kpa was 5.3. Glad to see CAP come down of course but couldn’t understand rise in kpa - can they vary by a lot day to day or can anyone explain what this increase might mean please? Was the first score possibly an error? Thank you
Increase in kpa score: I had a Fibroscan... - British Liver Trust
Increase in kpa score
5.3 kPa is still in the F0 no fibrosis/normal range for NAFLD and not worth getting yourself worried about. The fibroscan takes 10 readings across the liver some bits may be a bit denser others less dense and it's the average of all your readings which give you the overall score. Perhaps this time the readings were more of the slightly denser tissue rather than last time when it was the less dense. Either way it's totally normal.
The great news is your CAP score which has come down significantly and shows that the fatty portion of your liver is decreasing too.
By your hard work you've brought down a CAP reading which was on the cusp of S3 Steatosis (over 67% of your liver being fatty) to a reading which now brings you below S1 steatosis - less than 11% fatty change.
All GREAT NEWS so keep up the good work.

CAP down from 284 to 186 in only 6 months... that is wonderful Lauretta... you should be so proud... your determination, diet and exercise routine must all be very very good.
I always love reading posts like yours.
Thank you! 🙏 The high CAP score really shocked & scared me into action to be honest. It has to be a balance though, I was conscious that losing weight too quickly might actually make things even worse
