hi all

My mum has ESLD she had now tried every treatment and nothing seems to be helping. The consultant has suggested having the PLUREX fitted for Ascites. Anyone had this ?? X

Hello,

Has the drain system been explained to your mother? Basically it is a permanent drain which is tunnelled under the skin. It is attached to a drainage system. When fitted it means that the ascites does not get to build up in the tummy so the person with it is generally more comfortable and it avoids the need for repeated hospital admissions to have ascites drained. The whole thing can be managed at home either by district nurses or a family member - training would be given.
