Paracetamol and recovery

Hello,

About 1 year ago I had a fibroscan which pointed out that I had f2 fibrosis (alcohol)

I' ve managed to turn things around for me through abstinence, meditaranian diet, and exercise. Last follow up in august showed a large reduction, f0-f1, and fat in liver also went down.

I currently have pain/ inflammation in my shoulders and knees because of running and weight lifting. Have halted all exercise for 3 weeks and feel not mutch improvement. My doctor advised me to take paracetamol but am worried that it will interfere with my recovery from f2.

Is this fear warrented or should i just take the meds?

Kind regards

As it was advice from your doctor it should be fine. Indeed, its probably one of the few they'll be happy for you to take.

Even with late stage cirrhosis my medical team were happy with me taking paracetamol for pain. Just don't go mad with it and don't exceed the recommended daily dose.

I was advised in the latter stages to keep the daily max to 6 tablets instead of the 8 stated on the packet, but if your doc hasn't mentioned that to you then the recommendations on the packet should be an ok guide.

If it was me - cautious as I am - I would ask at my next appointment with a hepatologist/gastroenterologist. I can take a certain amount of Paracetamol per day but that's me. Do you have any appointments in the near future? I'd also ask the GP for a referral about your shoulder although you might have to wait a while to see a specialist. My wife saw a private physiotherapist last year and it made a big difference. The sessions weren't as costly as we anticipated either and the guy who treated her is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists.

Sorry - also well done on abstaining from alcohol. Big achievement! If you're interested I created and co-manage a private support group on Facebook for people with Alcohol-related liver disease that you'd be very welcome to join. If you're interested I can send you the link in a message. Best wishes, Phil
