Tattoo Inks ?

I asked my consultant if I could get another tattoo, he said I could but I had to avoid certain inks. He is doing some research into this and has asked his colleagues at St James's. I just wondered if anybody out there knows what they are. TIA

It is important to make sure that only sterile needles are used if you are about to have a tattoo, acupuncture or a body piercing, and if possible see that the needles come from a new sterile pack. Hopefully your consultant will advise more. We do not have any detailed information regarding the use of specific inks but we would be very interested to know, please keep us posted!

Thank you for replying, I'm not planning on getting another one until next year which will give me plenty of time.

I have just found this American article which I think explains some of the concerns about different inks: savedtattoo.com/is-it-true-...

However, there is always a danger that some unlicensed back-street tattoo parlours may not be so hygienic when it comes to maintaining, clean and usable needles and equipment. There is then always a chance of contracting Hepatitis C. So care is needed I think.

Thank you Richard, that link was very informative. I'm not planning to get inked until next year. The tattoo studio I use is registered with the local council and is very hygienic. I am due to see my consultant again at the end of November so I will discuss it further then.

Hi, If everything is healing ok you should be fine but see a Dr at the first sign of infection.

Hi, My platelets are good. I have been doing my own research because he also mentioned hair dye which some people are having allergic reactions to. These hair dyes contain a chemical called PPD.I'm going to speak to my tattooist about this.
