Got a question because cannot get straight answers. Just say someone did have cirrhosis and was having easy bleeding and bruising your platelets would be low right? And your inr would be abnormal right? So with that being said if your platelets are normal your inr will be normal also meaning cirrhosis is not causing the bleeding and again right? Because people on here keep saying if you have cirrhosis your platelets will be low and inr will be abnormal. Then you get people saying if you are bleeding get inr test doesn’t make no sense they are just saying things to say them. I read if you have cirrhosis and it’s causing your easy bleeding and bruising your platelets will be low and inr will be abnormal. If someone knows real answer let me know thanks.

'Easy bruising and difficulty stopping even small bleeds' are symptoms listed on the BLT page for cirrhosis in the section - Later symptoms, as the liver is struggling to function.

The reason this happens is that the spleen will now be gobbling up platelets (whose job it is to slow/stop bleeding) - platelet count in bloods will be lowered.

* from the blood results you recently posted your platelet count was sitting at 210.0 with a normal lab range of 125-332 so spot on normal.

To give you an idea of abnormal value in someone with cirrhosis my hubbies at one point were sitting at 22 & he had to have platelet transfusions before procedures.

This will then have the knock on effect of increasing the INR or blood clotting time.

The INR is found using the results of the prothrombin time (PT) test. This measures the time it takes for your blood to clot.

Chris -

Your platelet count is 210. That means your platelet count is normal. In fact it's more or less right in the middle, not too high, not too low.

You can relax.

Hi Chris,

I see you have been going back and forth 3 yrs, now, If you have cirrhosis, there will be more symptoms than a nose bleed, everyone has them, and a foot that swells sometimes. Do you know the cause of your so call liver disease? if so, remove the cause and you will be fine.
