First apt at liver unit

Hi,

We have the first appointment tomorrow with the liver unit at the local hospital.

What questions did you ask at yours?

All we know is she was discharged with severe decompensated liver disease. Ascitite fluid. And a whole bucket full of medications.

I want to go in with questions but I don't want to not ask the right questions or miss out on anything I should know. If that makes sense!

Any advice appreciated 💜

Hi I put a note on my phone and then when anything arises in the future that I think of, I add it it on so I don't forget, or have a note pad. My first visit with my lovely consultant, I went with a friend (2019) and think I was so stunned I did not ask enough so from my point of view ask anything you can think of. Diet I think is a big one, i was told to avoid Salt being one thing. Weight. I was never brave enough to ask at the first one the future prognosis as after reading google and before joining here I was convinced that was it but happy to say with no alcohol and a good diet and lots of walking its a much different picture now. Anything with her body you are unsure about. Mine was bleeding, tiredness and bloating. I'm not sure now with Covid but are you allowed in? if so a second pair of ears would be a good thing because as i said a lot went over my head and was lucky to have my friend with me. Good Luck today, I'm sure other members will have a lot more tips. x

Fingers crossed for you xx

Hi XPAR, I see that you have already received a helpful reply and you have mentioned that your relation has been admitted. If it would be helpful at a later date, I've attached a link to 'questions to ask your doctor'. If you are in the UK and would like to chat, our nurse led helpline is open Monday to Friday 10am to 3pm 0800 652 7330.
