Decompensated liver cirrhosis to compensated, are you more susceptible to other serious health issues?

Depends what you mean by other serious health issues. Obviously your spleen and liver play a huge role in your immune system so that can make a patient more susceptible to infection type health issues. A cirrhotic liver can knock on to other organ issues (kidney, lungs etc) plus a slightly increased risk of liver cancer, hence, the 6 month HCC screening which is routine for cirrhosis patients.

No specific ailment in mind, just been feeling poorly lately, tired, lethargic, swollen ankles, erratic sleep, just general malaise!

Those sound like typical liver symptoms - certainly hubbies main symptoms are fatigue, lethargy & disrupted sleep pattern together with concentration and congnitive difficulties. Swollen ankles though could be a bit of oedema and should be checked out. I trust the patient is following a reduced salt diet with diuretics if needed to prevent fluid build up.

Common cirrhosis symptoms are described on the BLT page on cirrhosis. britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

I take spironolactone daily, I have been alcohol free for 2 years on the 21st April, my bloods are all on the normal spectrum and my latest ultrasound was good, I am just worn out, maybe hitting that big60 is just taking its toll.

Hiya. Lethargy is very common with cirrhosis. I have come from decompensated as well and am 2 years clear on the 4th😁. My schedule saves me. I was so sick, very close to dying, but, as I have mentioned before found some way to get back from all the problems through prayer, research and trial and error as not all issues affect us all the same. I keep a rigid schedule. It doesn’t make me unhappy doing this as every second I have now is a blessing. But in that schedule are my rest times, meal times, treats(essential) and everything else for the week ahead. Most important is that it is not inflexible...life is fluent so I try to go with it while looking after my health and knowing my limitations. Feel free to pm me for a ‘What do you do if this happens’, discussion anytime. Take care.

All the symptoms I mentioned (with regards to hubby) have been the same since day one though he still very much pushes himself on better days - yesterday we both went a very rough 7 mile hill walk. He's turning 60 in a fortnight.

Hubby has never needed a diuretic.

Hi, your hubby sounds very similar to my Mum who is also on diuretics for ascites. Does he get cramp? Mum keeps getting it at night in her legs and in her hands during the day.
