Decreasing bun levels

Hi,

Does anyone know if steadily decreasing BUN and BUN/creatine values are 100% indicative of liver failure? Albumin, bilirubin, creatine, and protein levels are normal. Platelets are low. ALP, AST, and ALT are Moderately increased. The values have significantly gone down over the past 6 months being sober. 6 months ago the ALT/AST/ALP values were extremely high. There is a diagnosis of hemochromatosis. Glucose values are high and triglycerides are extremely high.

A summary of bun results are below. Does anyone have an idea what this could mean?

9/16/19: 18

10/10/19: 13

10/11/19: 9

10/18/19: 7

1/29/21: 6

2/21/21: 4

3/11/21: 5

BUN is generally raised if things are not quite right, for example they can be raised if you had an infection or with some chronic or acute diseases that may have a knock on effect on the kidneys. In my experience if the values are falling this is generally a sign that things are improving.

You can usually check on line what the references ranges are for what are normal values at your hospital's laboratory. That should tell you where you are in relation to what would be normal values at that lab and where yours sit.

Do though be aware that the rules of this forum discourage the sharing and commenting on lab results. Also, none of us here are medically trained. So if you want some propper advice on what your results mean for you then you really should check with your own doctor.

Hi Runnergirl1955 and thanks for posting. As another forum has noted, results are not to be posted on the site. This is because no one on the forum is medically trained and do not want to give an inaccurate diagnosis. If you would find it helpful, the nurse led helpline is open from Monday to Friday, 10am to 3pm 0800 652 7330. Take care, Trust 10.
