Hi, wondering if anyone can help. I’ve been experiencing pain in the upper right quadrant and an upset tummy with lots of wind. I have a referral to a gastro consultant and he scheduled a blood test to to check for inflammatory markers before I see him. My liver enzyme I think it’s GGT is 400. The GP phoned this morning and told me she has booked me in for a scan and a liver function test. Should I be worried? What is the normal levels of GGT? I stick within the recommended levels of alcohol per week. I am over weight but not obese and I am 41. Any advice most welcome x

GGT levels ?? Worried 😟
I see you mentioning on the thread to BLT admin that no one has replied to this post.
Probably the reason for lack of reply is that no one can answer the question on GGT as the normal range will differ from lab to lab and we arn't also allowed to comment on blood results & what they might represent.
It sounds like your doctor has been very on the ball in having seen your inflated results he has made the referral to a gastro consultant & a scan. There are numerous conditions of the liver and it will be down to your consultant to establish why you are having inflated results.
Being overweight can put you at risk of non alcohol related fatty liver so this could be one possibility, even drinking within 'guideline' levels isn't necessary safe but there are also many other causes unrelated to any of these things.
I hope you get your consultant appointment soon and some answers from doctor as soon as possible.
Katie
Thank you both for your replies.
It was a bit of a shock when I received the result. Hopefully I will get some more information soon. 😊
