I have been diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the liver, Fibroscan 14.5Kpa, likely to be NAFLD, Type 2 DM, Autoimmune and viral negative. Child A - UKELD 43. No signs of portal hypertension, last platelets in Nov 126 for OGD.
I have lost over a stone in weight and arranged to speak with a nutritionist and fitness coach to improve fitness and eat more healthily. I rarely have a drink and if i do i don't drink very much. However, i think the last time i had a drink would of been at begining of October.
Do i have to stop drinking altogether with NAFLD.
So confused....
Thanks
Gail

Well done on achieving such a substantial weight loss. Keep up the good work.
You have been given a diagnosis of cirrhosis so the aim has to be to avoid giving the liver extra work to do. At the end of the day alcohol is toxic to the liver, no matter how small the quantity and no matter that it was not alcohol that caused the problem in the first place.
It would be a good idea to speak to your liver team about this as they have your records/results and they will be able to clear up your confusion as to whether it is ok for you to have the occasional drink.
Yes you really should stop drinking completely. Whatever the cause of your liver disease, you really should avoid anything which will potentially further damage a poorly struggling liver. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem for you to stop as you drink very little anyway so look after this incredible, precious organ.Best wishes
