More post transplant questions 😀

So dad is still taking small steps slowly but surely forward, he’s on tacrolimus, mychoohelate and prednisalone, he had some swelling in ankles/feet when he came home which went up and down but seem to be staying swollen now, we seen renal team at our local hospital last week and he wasn’t over concerned, dad is really stressed about it saying he might aswell give up, I think he’s worrying things are taking a step back does anybody have any experience of swelling 5 weeks post transplant ?

Sounds like your dad is doing really well 👍and for at least the first year it is fine tuning drugs and sorting out what works best. I had swelling of my ankles due to a good pressure tablet called amlodipine! I was switched to Doxazocin and that reduced the swelling!

It is still early days, we are all different and respond to drugs differently and he sounds a bit like he is being too hard on himself and expecting too much too soon!

Stay safe and well🙏👍

Call renal team. Ask them.. advocate for your doctor. It’s OK to be firm, consistent, persistent and nice. It’s the doctor’s job to relieve PT anxieties with facts, concern and empathy.

This will work out well. Blessings

Hi,

I went in with oedema, and came out with it. It did reduce in time, possibly over a couple of months. Now, it’s a distant memory!!

As Lesley said, your dad is on a cocktail of drugs which his body will take a bit of

Time to get used to. Plus, the trauma of

The transplant takes its toll on all of

Us in some way. It does settle down, honest!!

You can get some fluid retention with thd prednisolone. It should reduce as they reduce the dose over time. As his kidney function improves that will help too.
