If he has ascities, gravity takes its path and follows down, leading to swelling from the waist down, oedema. Males in particular can have added problems.

I was drained every three weeks, up to 14 litres and struggled to walk, using a stick. Getting dressed, especially putting shoes on was extremely difficult and time consuming.

Please keep the drain puncture clean and dressed, it does come with an infection risk.

I wish you the best but cirrhosis is a very difficult illness to live with.

Hi

I think you need to get medical advice for your husband as soon as you can!

I used to get drained every 7/10 days but was ok. He could have an infection or something more serious, so I wouldn’t hesitate to make that call!

I hope he gets the help he needs🙏

Lesley

Good morning Hotmama66,

As our forum members have suggested, it would be advisable to have your husband medically assessed.

You can contact NHS111 for advice, support and treatment today.

If this has been a rapid change in your husbands condition , may I suggest you contact 999 for an ambulance to arrange admission to hospital.

If this has been a slower deterioration, may I suggest you contact his liver team tomorrow or his GP,

Keep us posted,

Trust9
