2020 and we are still confronted with stigma. Even from some of the medical professionals. (I’m new to the forum).

I had successful treatment for hep. c after second treatment, (48 weeks the first time, 14 weeks the second time) which was about 5 to 6 years ago.

The reason I mention stigma is twofold. Firstly I got hep. c through intravenous drug use in the 1960s and 70s.

Secondly I suffer from a serious mental disorder caused by illicit and prescription drug use. Yet sadly today some folk still think these are taboo subjects.

I am really blessed having a wife who is a nurse; we’ve been married 22 years, with her help and a good medical team my liver and psychiatric problems have been managed well. And I’ve stayed out of hospital.

I am very fortunate as I have no noticeable problems with my liver, despite the fact I had hep. c over 40 years ago. Having said that, over the past months I have been getting itchy hands, feet and shins. I had an appointment for a blood test to make sure I’m still virus free, but unfortunately because of Covid-19 the test was cancelled.

My wife and I are serious about our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and have found much relief in our Christian walk together.

It would be really great to share with other people who suffer health problems, not only with the liver but also with the mental health issue that can arise from being stigmatised by these health problems.

All blessings,

Malc
