A little something that's different to cheer your day!
A smile is cheer from you to me,
The cost is nothing, its given for free.
They console the weary and gladden the sad
And can make someone happy when they are sad!

Tonka Toys .... I wish! My child hood was spent making bow & arrows out of sticks and bits of old string and go carts out of old pram wheels and planks of wood! π€£π€£π€£

π. So did I!! Tonkas were way too expensive. Anyway better shut up. If Richard were still here he would say stop treating this forum like Facebook. Well he did actually tell me that once...

Pm, how strange, should we employ sherlock, The case of the missing Dick?? (using the shortened version of the name Richard for comic effect not in any way suggesting Richard is a dick!)
Ps I'm happy to be a pleb, rather than the establishment. Up the plebs!
Little do you guys know I do have another nick name beside Rock Chick ..... its Watsonπ€£π€£π€£π€£ I help a professional writer friend out whos known to me as Sherlock π€£π€£! Would you like me to investigate the missing 'π€£π€£π€£(Richard) ,??? Ha! Ha!

Just to let you know, Richard has been a massive support to many people on this forum. He has a vast amount of knowledge of the liver from how it works to how it fails. He has helped people who have abused alcohol due to mental trauma and supported others through liver transplants all through his own bitter experiences. He is now spending a lot of time and energy on finding out about the latest tests and treatments for liver damage, whatever the cause or reason, looking to increase support for mental health and alcohol abuse in his area. All of which will greatly benefit future, genuine sufferers posting on this forum.
That's wonderful news to hear and I truely respect Richard and others that take great interest and time investigating/sourcing any new medical technolodgies they may help others in combating any medical condition!
The work and effort that Richard puts into helping people is remarkable. I came to this forum at a low point in my journey through transplant, Richardβs support was fundamental in helping me.
After david? You mean before donβt you? Because in 1955, Mound Metalcraft changed its name to Tonka Toys Incorporated. You canβt be more than 70 - or are you?π

Church mice were living in luxury compared to me. I thought biscuits were made broken. πππ, and fish and chips was just a pennies worth of crackling left in the fryer.π₯π₯π₯
Hi Trish, just for a laugh, I used to go to the grocers and ask "do you have any broken biscuits" if they answered "yes" I'd shout "well mend 'em then" and run away. π€£π€£π€£. Do you remember waiting 'till just before the baker's closed, and queueing to buy stale cakes?
I used to get 2 shillings on a Saturday if I cleaned the house every day ! I spent it on going to the sat matinee ! Sixpence to get in! 2 ice lollies, a bag of fruit tellers and black Jack's that would last me all week, and maybe fish and chips for tea from the 2 shillings! πππ
I only got a shillingπ₯π₯π₯, Iused to sneak round the back, and get in free, at Saturday Morning Pictures. Black Jacks, Fruit salad and Palm toffee Yum Yum πππ
Yes I do Trish. I used to go to the corner shop, ration book in hand, and get our butter, patted and weighed in front of me an wrapped in greaseproof paper, and of course our bacon ration.
Crikey Trish, I wish 5 years was "just a bit"π€£π€£ My liver would be a lot better if I had stopped the booze 5 years earlier ππ, Cumberland sausages are also on my naughty boy list, but I am allowed Kendal mint cake ππ. The Lakes are truly God's greatest creation in my humble opinion, not that I'm biased of course. If you look at the banner on my about page, you will dee a photo of Crummock Water which is where my Da's ashes were scattered 32 years ago , and where I will be with my Da again, when my time comes.
Ah! That's lovely David ! My ashes if any are be scattered off the cliffls of Slaines Castle which is situated at Cruden Bay Nr Peterhead Aberdeenshire! This is were I spent many a lonely/lovely moment there thinking and watching the seas crash against the rocks below!
Kendal cake to sweet for me, however I do love the lakesππ
I thought Slaines sounded familiar. My Da's family originally came from Perthshire and further north.Yes Kendal mint cake is very sweet, but is extensively used by mountaineers for the quick energy it gives.
Perthshire and further north! I'm still convinced in our past lives being connected even more ! The spiritual forces are shifting ! Cheers for PM's and good luck! X

Yes the few I have were given to me by a sudo uncle of the family when I was really little. I'd imagine they would be worth a bit considering they are the old metal ones before they banned it for safety reasons and did them all in plastic. Whats wrong with youngsters playing with sheet metal lol?

Well sort of survived? Sorry thatβs not meant to come across badly but I do know that up to about 6 years ago my drinking water all came through lead pipes!
Yea I remember reading about Caligula and how the lead in the vats used to make wine in the Roman days was responsible for the madness that came across many of the people there. Nasty business no doubt.
β’ in reply to
Today we still have loads of properties/schools and old hospitals fitted with some kind of asbestos material which is also dangerous to health! Some of us are not aware of the asbestos pipe lagging.........Again nasty stuff!
Not in our house. Built in 1930 and the Mains feed was still lead. I replaced all the pipes in the house with copper except some of the drain aways. Gosh that was when I was actually able to do stuff like that π
Alf, In the good old days we were climbing trees and rocks, swimming in becks, making and using bows and arrows were the norm. Health and safety has put paid to that for kids today. I wish I could take kids now. back to those times and show them what they are missing.
No I didn't Trish, but Annie would not be best pleased if I had some as she's got me on a perpetual diet π₯π₯π₯.It's for my own good she says πππ
I know what you mean but kids can still be kids to a degree ! However my parents used to say bye and off to work they'd go but before they left it was get some bread and jam if your hungry and stay out of trouble! They never knew I dug dens under ground, played in derilicted houses and stole apples from someones garden!π€£π€£π€£
Hi Trish, My Granda worked down Wellington Pit in Whitehaven, so breathed in coal dust all his working life.π₯π₯π₯. It was a tough life in his time.
My Granda was born in 1869, and was down the mines when he was 14, and forced to retire due to chest problems in 1913, when my Da was just 5 years old.
See even back then others helped each other where possible! I'm a STRONG believer that people in our lives today were with us in previously life ! 'You' could a close friend back then which we are today.
Those who we were related to in a previous life can actially feel that bond between each other in this life which you may think is little weird but it's not, Its friendship !
Oh Trish , that is so so true. I still talk to my Da, and wish him happy birthday every year, and of course my Ma too. I do feel that I have a guardian Angel looking over me ( it might be my Da And Ma), because whenever I do something stupid, I usually come out of it OK.
Did I previously tell you that its officially been confirmed that I'm a mediumππand have recently given messages to other mediums! My guardian angel is called ILY who's been there for me !
Phoenix - I mean I donβt know if itβs actually true that Tonka metal toysβ paint had lead in it, but there was a lot of fuss when I was young(er) about this issue. I used to have little soldiers that were made of lead, we also had panted wood that contained lead in our house. There was a lot of stuff in the press at that time raising concerns about it all!
I found this:-
βAccording to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the most common sources for lead poisoning in children involve paint as well as toys manufactured with lead in the paint, plastic, or metal. In the United States the use of lead in household paints was banned prior to 1978β.

Chad Valley as a brand name is now owned by Argos. The original company was taken over by Palitoy. Courtesy of Wikipedia. I looked because I thought I had seen the name Chad Valley around still!

Hello, Slaines - I donβt think weβve βmet,β so let me first say hello. The comments on your post caught my attention because there is discussion about the whereabouts of Richard. He has been quiet for awhile, so Iβd like to take a moment to introduce him to you and all the other thousands of people reading this forum.
Richard64 is a very respected member of our forum who always offers excellent, helpful advice to those in need. Iβm sure your group meant no harm to him in this thread, but if you all could take a moment to re-read it, you may find that, like me, some of the comments can be interpreted as mocking him. (calling him the Missing Dick, for example.) Please just try for a moment to think how all of you would feel if you read such a discussion going on about yourself. It would sting, pure and simple.
I am increasingly mystified by this forum, because within posts, members are increasingly referred to in an unfavorable or just slightly negative way - sometimes by codename and sometimes not - as if they do not actually exist and cannot read the words being written about them. Itβs like talking about someone behind their back when they are standing right there. Richard is a very real man with feelings that matter - just like all of us. I am delighted that all of you have become such good friends, but I wonder if you could consider the idea that this may make you less careful with your comments than you otherwise might be.
Also, I hope that βthe teamβ refers to everyone on this forum? The way it is used in this thread appears to refer to just your small group. This might lead to others feeling ostracized and hesitant to ask for the help they need. I know this was not your intent.
Thank you for your kind consideration of my thoughts and feelings about parts of this post. My statements do not refer to any single one of you, but rather to the overall tenor of the conversation. I am writing only from a place of concern and sadness. I decided to comment publicly rather than via PM so that others could learn about Richard and also not feel left out.
Sent with best wishes for everyoneβs happiness and good health. πΊ
Firstly I would like to say hi from a kind caring and loving person who would NOT hurt or offend anyone intentionally which you can see if you have time to read my notes written to many people over the numerous months!,
My comment referring to Richard (Dick) was not meant to be taken in the wrong context which it may have been. I thought at the time of replying to others that Richard was part of the team on this forum who helped others in the past but joined in with a bit of banter now and then to lighten there/ others stressful lives!
Just so your aware, I'm a serious person at heart and an ex nurse, I maybe incorrect in blowing my own trumpet but in the short time of joining this wonderful forum I believe I'm respected for who I am and I do not follow any kind of strict protocol. I know that there are many of us on this forum who are also deeply caring individuals with lots of medical knowledge (like yourself I'm guessing) and there are those special people who spare hours of each day monitoring this forum hoping that they maybe in a position to offer (none medical advice) but share there wealth of health experiences to ease others concerns or worries in the only way they know how too!
Please take this note as not an apology as there was no nasty intent meant towards Richard/Dick for short!
May I wish you and everyone reading this note a lovely forthcoming weekend!
Love from Trish xxxx

Great post Trishi. I donβt think AD directed this post specifically at you at all but more at others who AD thinks have been unreasonable towards Richard. In others I include myself. I am not going to prolong that particular discussion though because it is history and does nothing to help the integrity of this forum. (This is NOT getting at you AD - it is a general comment!)
