Prognosis in decompensated cirrhosis???

My father has acities (only returned now after 15 months) has varicies though not requiring banding. Doesn't look so jaundice these days and has put weight on. Complains of some cramps in the evening but generally is able to function well.

Is there any way to indicate a prognosis based on symptoms. What did others see at latter stages of the illness? I search endlessly for an answer as I want as much time as possible.

Hi Ls

Well that’s a bit difficult not knowing what you mean exactly by latter stages. Right before - last few months- before my TP I:-

- Could only walk about 10m without a rest

- Couldn’t even stand still for more than about a minute before needing to sit down

- dizzy spells

- no balance hardly at all

- absolute fatigue - unable to function well

- lots of daytime naps!

- lots of episodes of Hepatic Encephalitis

- lots of Hospital admissions

That’s all I can remember at this unearthly hour.. oh yes of course

- unable to sleep

- night sweats

Umm well hope that gives a general idea. Not a nice time to be honest and I truly hope your father is in a better state than that.

Good luck to you Both!

Miles
