Hi Belgium, & sorry you've got this health scare going on. Glad to hear your viral labs are negative and fibroscan is showing no fibrosis. Time is on your side, but I know the waiting for a clear diagnosis is hard.
One thing you might do while you wait to see your doc in May is to ask for an iron lab (blood test) to be done. Specifically "ferritin" and iron saturation (aka TSAT or transferrin saturation).
This will rule out (or possibly flag) hemochromatosis, which is often not discovered until late in the diagnostic process. Hemochromatosis is a genetic disorder common in those of Northern European ancestry and high liver enzymes with no other apparent cause is a common early warning for this condition. It is very easy to treat, but for many with this condition, the diagnosis is often missed until the liver is badly damaged.
The iron labs are very cheap, & your doctor shouldn't object to ordering them. You can even have them done privately at very low cost.
Hope you get to the bottom of this soon, and better health is in your future!
For them to diagnose AIH, they have to do it by ruling out other possibilities first. So they will rule out viral diseases first, hence results for Hep B and C. Then they will want to rule out the possibility of drugs and alcohol. There are also things to rule out.
The ANA and ASMA are autoantibodies, which can indicate AIH.
The biopsy is usually used to confirm a diagnosis, but is usually done when they feel there is enough evidence from bloods etc to make it necessary.
Do you know what AIH is? If this was the diagnosis, it is mostly successfully managed through immunosuppressants and steroids.
