Pain in the flank and a bright ultrasound.

For some time, i had a pain in the flank that i attributed to working sitting for most of the time. By chance, i got this ultrasound that was described as quite bright. I have yet to see a specialist, but is it possible to tell from the ultrasound for how long the probably fatty liver i have has been in this state? I can just see a rip, something i presume to be a bile path and a blob right of apparently the reflection of the device. Should i also presume that my flank pain is from this or should i seek to get further examinations?

This image has to be interpreted by a radiologist solely. We cannot comment on photos or test results by policy of this forum. We are not qualified to do so either. All we can do is share experiences and offer support. The only thing I can answer is that no you cannot tell how long it's been that way from an ultrasound.

Hi mscr1,

Do you have an appointment set up to see the specialist yet? I would have thought that whoever set up the ultrasound would get back to you on the results - though I gather that timing may depend on where you live. My husband has cirrhosis and gets an ultrasound just before he heads in to his liver doctor so we get the reading of the results that same day.

If you don't have an appointment yet, call whoever set up the ultrasound to find out what your next steps should be - at least that is what I would do.

Best wishes,

Mary

p.s. as stated you need a doctor to give you answers regarding any test results because we aren't doctors and your own doctors know your specific issues.
