uk treatment for liver cirrhosis

hi , new to this group. we have lived in bulgaria for the last 10 years , but now my husband has been diagnosed with stage 4 liver cirrhosis. he is on his second admission to hospital in 4 weeks for drainage of the ascites . we are hoping desperately to sell up and return to the uk to be with family. what sort of treatment can we expect from the nhs on our return? he is also having human albumin injections , is this something he will be given in the uk ? really desperate to get back to the uk for help and support from family . any advice . diet suggestions , gratefully accepted .

My brother had cirrhosis and had excellent care from his gp, liver consultants and transplant coordinators until he received his transplant a few months ago. Post transplant he has had a few complications and is again getting excellent care from all the people involved in his care. I remember he had albumin thru iv not injections prior to his transplant. He also suffered badly from encephalopathy and muscle waste age and ascites. His varices had burst and he also has a tipps procedure which saved his life as they couldn't get the bands to hold. We live in Scotland. I hope you manage to get back to the UK as soon as possible and get your husband the care he needs and also support for yourself from being near your family.

thank you , so glad your brother is doing well now .

Hi weejimmy,

So sorry to hear about your husband. I can understand your need to get back "home" where things may be more familiar.

There are many people on this site, not to mention the admins of the British Liver Trust, who can offer you helpful information.

We live in the US, so I don't really know the whole experience and wouldn't want to give you bad information.

Best wishes to you both,

Mary

thank you for your kind words .

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your journey in both senses. A useful reminder on continuing to make the NI contributions from abroad.
