Worried about blood results

I’m 39 year old female and had a blood test due to palpitations, tiredness and discomfort under right rib cage. I have also got vascular malformations on my neck. My dr asked me to re test as my Alt serum was 40 and GGT serum was 137.

My new results have come in at serum alt 53 and GGT 245. She’s organised more detailed blood tests and a scan. I’m really worried. 😥

Please try not to worry too much and i know it,s easier said than done. You really need to get these tests done so we know what you are dealing with and let us know. My numers such as ggt which measures inflamation in your liver were way worse than yours but came down quite quickly after I gave up alcohol and stopped abusing myself. I also had heart palpatations which can be due to alcohol or in my case dehydration so it,s very important to watch your fluids. After your blood test your doctor may ref3er you for a fibroscan a painless echo sounding of your liver to check for stiffness or an ultrasound which are all quite usual checkups. Take a friend with you forr moral support and get back to us when you know more. Meanwhile, please make a start on protecting your liver, stopping drinking if you do and try to eat a clean low salt, little processed food diet and exercise will help. Also, just thought fatty liver which is fast becoming an epidemic here and in the U.S.A can be stopped by loosing weight if over , I am still trying , at 52 yrs shedding the pounds isn,t as easy as it once was!!😂😂😃😂 best wishes, plenty of folk in the samr boat on this site. x

Thank you moonbeam4. I woke up this morning determined to turn this around! The dr said she will send me for an ultrasound as well and the more detailed bloods should give me a clearer idea. X

that,s great, let me know how you get on or if you have any questions. fortunately the liver is one of the few organs that can repair itself to a degree, once I decided to turn things around I was amazed how quickly my liver numbers came down, my g.g.t was in the 600,s in the beginning! My ultrasound showed some cirhosis " sort of around the edges " the lady told me. That was over 2 years ago and my last scan shows it,s stable, no change and i,ve been reassured that if I continue to look after myself I can live with it. I had a real wake up call and feel I,ve been given a second chance, as so many people don,t realise they have damage until their livers fail ( they call it the silent killer ) as you say we have the opportunity to turn things around and i consider myself very fortunate. m.b.😉

Hi katmum,

It sounds as if your doctor is staying on top of things and doing her best to find out what is going on.

From things I've read on this site there can be any number of reasons for blood work to show highs and lows and many are easily handled.

Best wishes,

Mary
