AT a loss.

Hello everyone. I wrote on here before about my alp, ast and alt levels high and increasing. They then did ultrasound of liver , found a tiny being tumor. Had test done again last Friday and now my alp is up more, ggt is up to 240, last time it was normal, alt and ast are now down close to normal range. I just don't know anymore. Billirubin was normal as well. I am hearing this is pointing toward the liver or bile duct or pancreas all which were seen on the abdominal ultrasound and nothing remarkable found there. I don't drink so that is not it. Meeting with Doc in a few days to go over labs and what next but I am just so depressed, lost and scared right now.

Could be a billirary obstruction, perhaps from the tumour blocking the duct? Really hard to say. Hard to keep positive I know but I think they may need to get a test like an MRI or higher resolution imaging done to see whats causing the issue. Ultrasounds are great for certain things but there imaging resolution can leave much to be questioned sometimes.

Thank you Phoenix. I appreciate you replying.

Spot on again Phoenix. Several US scans didn’t “see” my thrombosis but a CT/MRI scan found it straight away! (I can’t remember if it was a CT or MRI scan - I mean the whole thing at that time was just a haze to me).

Thank you kindly Miles 🙂

I think it was probably an MRI Milo. CT scans often dont show much more than an ultrasound most of the time. I believe the biggest noticable difference between ct and ultrasound is the wait time to get one lol.🙄

Ah OK thanks 👍👍

You need a blood test to check autoimmune markers. I do not want to make you panic and I am obviously not a doctor but there are indications in your blood results that point to Primary biliary cholangitis. I have it and both my alp and ggt were very high on diagnosis. I now take urso and all normal now. Try not to worry your bilirubin being normal is a good sign.

Sammi you were right on. My gastro had blood work done for this and the numbers were sky high meaning I have PBC. They set me up with consult to liver doctor now . I don't know what's next , but I have an answer at least , even if it is a scary one.

May l ask please when you had the biopsy on the tumour carried out? When this tumour grows to the right size, it should be burnt off using liver ablation treatment. Has this been explained to you yet?

Hi Richard. No biopsy was done. It was on the ultrasound report as a benign small liver tumor made up of blood vessels.

Hi, Dec 2017 I had very similar following an ultrasound, many "tumors" found and GGT high

I had CT, MRI and nuclear scan followed by 2 biopsies. Eventually it was found to be PBC. Tumors were benign and the cause not found. Once they were determined to be benign it's less concerning.

I am now taking medication for PBC and feel reassured that it will all be fine.

I was under a tremendous amount of stress at the time which perhaps was the trigger.

It took a while in my case for a diagnosis (and during that time I was referred from my local hospital to main hospital then specialist Liver hospital). From the scans it looked pretty sinister which is why they wanted to rule out cancer.

I was however in general good health and not losing weight so that was also reassuring.

Wish you well and let us know how you get on.
