Sinus problems

Hi all,

I am currently stage 3 Alcohol related Cirrhosis, abstinent for almost 4 months. My main decompensation is ascites, for which I am taking diuretics.

About a month ago I started getting a constant pressure in my sinuses, causing headaches, eye dryness and breathing anxiety (I have always been a nose-breather!). Also, an odd musty odour in my nostrils (not on my breath).

This has coincided with an improvement in my diet, solid food, which I had not been able to eat for at least 6 months. Also fairly intense itching, which I understand is toxins from the fats I am now consuming.

I wonder if anyone else has experienced similar sinus problems?

It doesn't sound so bad, but for some reason it is the issue that is bothering me the most at the moment. I wonder if it is an effect of my digestive system working again but having to "fight for space" with the ascites fluid. Or perhaps it is a sign of Encephalopothy being brought on by toxins from processing the solid food. I don't seem to have any of the other usual symptoms of H.E.

I left messages with my Liver Support Unit to try to discuss these things, but they don't call back. I was told they would not be responding to calls over the holidays as they are so understaffed, and my GP refused to discuss any liver issues I have, saying I should leave the Liver Unit a more urgent message. I did, to no avail.

My anxiety goes through the roof with all the what-ifs and not being able to talk to a professional about them.

Sorry for my moaning, I wish you all a Happy and healthy New Year,

Kind Regards,

-Bryan

Hi Bryan, so sorry to hear you're not feeling so great- you mentioned ascites. I take furosemide and spirolactone once, maybe twice a day depending on my sodium intake. (Really cut back on salt which is in just about everything- especially "convenient" processed foods.) You mentioned it may be due to your fat consumption? Haven't heard of that possibility (yet)

Regarding your sinuses- haven't experienced anything unusual with mine since my diagnosis. Please read/ask about what foods to limit, avoid (or incorporate) to help with the ascites and H.D. Diet, including specific vitamins and supplements helped me tremendously. My ascites, H.E. and itchy skin, pruritis are barely here anymore.

Happy New Year, Bryan. Happy you found this place.

Hi

Happy New Year to you too.

Not sure about sinus trouble but I take fexofenadine 180mg for itching, it works a treat. I do hope you can get some help soon. Take care Lynne
