I went to Salford Royal hospital yesterday for my appointment with the dermatologist. I had seen a dermatologist at our local hospital who which works in partnership with Salford for dermatology who said they would assess me for laser treatment. I had read up on it and found that most hospital trusts won't laser spider naevie, so I was fully expecting to be refused. The consultant was surprised at the number of spider naevie I had including on my lips, she even looked at my tongue to see if there were any on it. She said that they would try to do most if not all of them. She showed me photos of the bruising after the treatment which were worse than I expected but I'm sure that it will be worth it. It will take about 4 sessions and is more stingy than painful. She explained that the ones on the chest are tricky as the skin is very sensitive and the laser can leave permanent white dots. I will have to risk it as my chest is the most affected ( it looks a bit like acne) I said I was surprised that they would offer laser therapy but she said that as it was caused by disease and not wanted just for vanity this trust would offer treatment.
We were at a wedding vow renewal yesterday...she even wore a full wedding dress aged nearly 60...the "bride" not the dress. She reminded me of miss Haversham 😂 😹🐈catty comment I know. It was the first time since my diagnosis that I would have liked a drink. I even declined the pink gin sorbet. I did have a glass of "nosecco" alcohol free prossecco but slimline tonic the rest of the time. I was furious with my husband who was absolutely wasted. I know I can't drink but he still can but I think he could have been a bit more supportive and just have 3 or 4 drinks not the 10 he did. He isn't a heavy drinker but will have maybe 5 bottles of beer during a week or a couple of beers and a bottle of wine over the course of a week. I know that pre diagnosis I didn't really drink so I'm supposed to not really mind being told never to drink alcohol again but it's completely different having that choice taken away. Normally I would have had a couple of glasses of prosecco at a wedding and probably not had another drink for 6 months and not even think about it. My weakness is Bailey's though..I bought a bottle before Christmas once and drank it all in a fortnight but that was because I really like the taste of it not because of the alcohol. I've just googled nosecco and it's £2.50 at Asda. They also do a merlot and a chardonnay. It isn't full of sugar either. I'm going to by some for Christmas day so I don't feel left out. Usually when we have a party I'm so busy serving food etc I don't even manage to drink a full glass of wine. I'm cooking for 12 this Christmas 🎅🎄🎁

Hi Deb. Glad you are able to get the treatment that you want and I like their attitude towards the treatment, that they are fixing something that is caused by disease (that is as it should be!). Had to laugh about Miss Haversham. Hope the church was de-cobwebbed (if there is such a word. lol). It's hard at social occasions when everyone is making merry and you don't want an to have an alcoholic drink, I think that would be the only occasion that I would miss a drink now. Not particularly the wanting of alcohol but the joining in and being part of it all. Shame your other half couldn't give you more support than he did but that is the weakness involving alcohol. One and you feel sociable, two and you feel more sociable and so on, it draws you in. One consolation for you is that you will feel a lot better for not having had any this morning and your husband is probably regretting how many he had. Don't show him any sympathy!! Lol. My husband is the one with liver disease and I'm not much of a drinker, at least not since college I can understand you being upset, it can be tough when we feel our loved one's behavior is not supportive.
To give your husband the benefit of the doubt- perhaps it was a way for him to relieve some of the stress he may have been feeling over your illness and unfortunately he didn't pick the best time.
He doesn't drink much normally but when drink is free and readily available as the wine was on Friday he is just greedy. We have been to our regular pub quiz tonight and he just drank coffee whereas he'd normally have 2 pints.
